Anyway, the show proper began when host Jimmy Kimmel parachuted onto the stage (no really) to perform his opening monologue.
And he finished his monologue off by noting that, this year, instead of simply being played off-stage, winners who went overtime on their speech would instead be DANCED off-stage by dancers from RRR.

The first award aired on the show was for Best Animated Feature, which was presented by a very quippy Emily Blunt and Dwayne “The Scorpion King of my Heart” Johnson…
…the award went to Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, who used their time on-stage to urge those in the room to take animation seriously as a storytelling medium.

Next up was Best Actor in a Supporting Role, which went to Ke Huy Quan for his performance in Everything Everywhere All At Once, who gave an emotional and passionate speech that 100% made me ugly-cry.

Then came Best Actress in a Supporting Role, which was a massive upset, going to Jamie Lee Curtis for her performance in Everything Everywhere All At Once.

After that, Sofia Carson performed “Applause” from Tell It Like a Woman, with help from Diane Warren.

Best Live Action Short Film came next, going to An Irish Goodbye — and the team used their time on stage to sing “Happy Birthday” to one of the award recipients.

Next up, Halle Bailey and Melissa McCarthy debuted the highly-anticipated trailer for The Little Mermaid.

Michael B. Jordan and Jonathan Majors took the stage next, and — after I came to (because I passed out from seeing that much attractiveness on one stage at once) — I realized they were presenting the award for Best Cinematography…
…which went to All Quiet on the Western Front.

We received another little musical break with a performance of “This Is a Life” from Everything Everywhere All at Once.

Best Costume Design went to the iconic Ruth E. Carter for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever — her second win!

While Best International Feature Film went to All Quiet on the Western Front.

Then the cast of RRR took to the stage to perform their catchy instant classic, “Naatu Naatu.”

Pedro Pascal and Elizabeth Olsen took to the stage in matching black ensembles to present Best Documentary Short Film…
…which went to The Elephant Whisperers.

Next up was Best Animated Short Film, which was awarded to The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse.

Then, Lady Gaga took to the stage to perform an intimate, stripped-down version of “Hold My Hand” from Top Gun: Maverick.

Best Production Design went to the sprawling epic All Quiet on the Western Front.

And Best Score ALSO went to All Quiet on the Western Front.

Avatar: The Way of Water took home the award for Best Visual Effects (because OF COURSE it did!).

Then Rihanna took to the stage to perform “Lift Me Up” from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and if you didn’t cry…you’re a liar, you cried.

Daniel Scheinert and Dan Kwan took home the trophy for Best Original Screenplay for Everything Everywhere All At Once.

And Sarah Polley took home the trophy for Best Adapted Screenplay for Women Talking.

The team behind Top Gun: Maverick won for Best Sound.

And Best Original Song went to “Naatu Naatu” from RRR, which also won the much less prestigious award for “The song that I just got out of my head, but is now back in my head forever”.

John Travolta presented the “In Memoriam” segment, and got choked up when mentioning Olivia Newton-John.
And Lenny Kravitz performed while the “In Memoriam” reel played in the background.

Best Film Editing went to Paul Rogers for his work on Everything Everywhere All At Once.

And Best Director went to TWO directors in “The Daniels” — Daniel Scheinert and Dan Kwan — for their incredible work on Everything Everywhere All At Once.

Brendan Fraser assured us that the Brenaissance remains in full swing, winning for Best Actor for his role in The Whale.

Best Actress went to Michelle Yeoh for her absolutely incredible performance in Everything Everywhere All At Once.
